NAMMERT boat insurance: liability, limited hull and comprehensive cover

Quick answer

NAMMERT offers different liability and hull insurance options. Basis hull cover lists specific insured events; Basis Plus and Premium provide broader protection. The policy lines also differ in valuation and claim settlement. Compare the actual terms supplied with your quote.

Considering NAMMERT boat insurance? Start with the losses you want to insure, then compare the relevant policy terms. A product name alone does not explain how a repair or total loss would be settled.

Transparency note: This guide uses NAMMERT public hull policy documents: Basis and Basis Plus 5-2025nam, and Premium 1-2025nam. Your agreed wording, schedule and endorsements determine cover.

Who provides NAMMERT boat insurance?

NAMMERT Assekuradeur GmbH is not an insurance company. Its initial disclosure describes its role in boat and yacht insurance as an underwriting agency with authority to issue cover and handle claims. NAMMERT names Württembergische Versicherung AG as the risk carrier; check the insurer shown in your own policy.

Liability or hull cover?

The NAMMERT product tiers are Basis, Basis Plus and Premium. Assess your liability and hull requirements separately:

CoverWhat to compare
Boat liabilityThird-party claims and the agreed liability limits
Basis limited hull coverOwn-boat damage caused by listed events
Basis Plus and PremiumBroader hull protection, settlement rules and additional benefits

The liability product addresses injury, property damage and financial loss affecting third parties. Check the limits and extensions for tenders, trailers, water pollution and skippering other boats. A headline limit does not tell you the sublimit for every benefit.

What does Basis limited hull insurance cover?

The Basis wording, A-3, lists storm and hail, lightning, earthquake, fire, explosion and theft of the entire craft. Storm is defined from Beaufort force 8. This is named-perils cover.

NAMMERT places collisions, grounding, vandalism and partial theft, including outboards, in the broader cover described on its hull product page. Consider the situations relevant to your boat and which repair costs you would be prepared to pay yourself.

Agreed value and claim settlement

Basis uses current value under A-7, with additional age-related settlement provisions under A-8. The sum insured is not an unconditional payment promise.

Basis Plus, A-8 and A-9, combines an agreed value with requirements relating to age, current value and evidence of replacement or reinstatement. For items over five years old, the half-sum-insured threshold matters. The wording provides for current-value settlement if that threshold or the required evidence is not met.

Premium, A-8 and A-9, has different valuation provisions. Evidence of value, declared improvements and salvage deductions still matter. Specifically agreed age deductions can apply to repairs. Read total-loss and partial-damage rules separately.

The product overview advertises no new-for-old deductions, while the policy wording expressly permits separately agreed age deductions. Check your schedule as well.

Limits and duties to check

All-risks cover still has exclusions and conditions. A stolen outboard, worn machinery and collision damage involve different questions.

  • Gross negligence: Under A-7, the waiver of a reduction applies only up to damage amounting to 25% of the sum insured in Basis Plus and 50% in Premium. Theft, alcohol and drug-related causes are exceptions in both wordings.
  • Theft precautions: Check the required security for the outboard, boat and trailer, including storage conditions.
  • Use and cruising area: Have racing, rental use and intended cruising areas addressed explicitly in the quote.

The hull benefits comparison also distinguishes salvage costs, personal effects, assistance and temporary cruising extensions. It makes winter-storage cover conditional on not selecting seasonal insurance. Use the table for orientation and the policy wording for the detailed rules.

What does NAMMERT boat insurance cost?

A meaningful premium requires your boat details. NAMMERT identifies boat type, value, engine power, cruising area, use and excess as factors in its cost overview. Advertised starting prices are not personal quotes.

Use our boat insurance calculator to calculate a premium for your boat. We compare NAMMERT quotes with policies from other boat insurers, so you can see how prices and benefits differ for your boat details.

Use the same boat details and payment basis across quotes. Record the amount you might pay yourself after theft, repair damage or a total loss. This helps you assess what a lower premium actually buys.

How to compare NAMMERT with other providers

Start directly in the NauticAssure calculator. Compare NAMMERT quotes with policies from other boat insurers and assess premiums, cover and excesses side by side.

Create one checklist for every quote: insured events, sum insured, valuation, excess, cruising area and essential extensions. Turn unclear points into questions. An agreed-value label, for example, does not replace checking the settlement requirements.

Our guides to Pantaenius boat insurance and ADAC watersports insurance offer further context. Our boat insurance comparison provides an overview of the key benefits to check.

Sources and policy documents
