Pantaenius charter insurance: cover, costs and comparison

Compare Pantaenius cover

Compare the Pantaenius policy with offers from other providers in the NauticAssure calculator.

Quick answer

Pantaenius charter insurance offers separate cover options. Start with three questions: what happens to your deposit after damage to the boat, who handles liability claims against you, and which travel costs are at risk if you cancel? Check your charter agreement and existing policies before choosing cover.

Considering Pantaenius charter insurance? This guide explains how to compare the cover options against your actual trip. Keep your charter agreement, deposit amount, travel dates and existing policies to hand.

Use the NauticAssure comparison calculator to compare the Pantaenius policy directly with charter insurance from other providers. See how premiums, excesses and benefits differ for your trip.

Transparency note: NauticAssure editorial guide to the German Pantaenius offer, checked on 29 September 2026 using PCV 0525. This English edition describes that German-market offer. Your own agreed policy wording and schedule determine cover.

What does Pantaenius charter insurance cover?

The Pantaenius overview describes five cover options. Use their purpose as a starting point, then check the detailed terms:

CoverPurposeWhat to compare
Deposit insuranceDeposit retained following boat damageDeposit amount, excess and evidence
Skipper liabilityLiability claims against skipper and crewInsured people, limits and damage to the charter boat
Cancellation and curtailmentCancellation or early returnInsured reasons, costs and deadlines
Travel medical insuranceTreatment and repatriationExisting cover and repatriation conditions
Personal accident insuranceAccidental disability or deathActivities and benefit limits

Start with losses you would struggle to fund yourself. A long list of benefits is less useful if the application omits an important crew member or uses the wrong deposit amount.

Are the old Pantaenius charter packages still available?

The current FAQ explain that fixed packages have been replaced by individually selected cover. Older package tables are unsuitable for a new booking.

Compare the selected options and their combined price. Do not carry assumptions about included benefits over from an older quote. Ask for the new combination to be shown explicitly.

Deposit insurance and skipper liability: what is the difference?

Pantaenius deposit insurance addresses a deposit retained following damage to the boat, including its engine and tender. Available deposit sums range from €500 to €20,000. The product page states that no excess applies to damage over €100.

Skipper liability addresses liability claims and does not replace deposit cover. Pantaenius describes it as supplementary protection where the yacht’s own liability insurance does not respond.

Imagine a damaged bathing platform is discovered at handover and the base retains €1,500. That raises a deposit question. A separate compensation demand from another boat owner raises a liability question. This example illustrates the distinction; it does not predict a claim settlement.

For each offer, write down which policy would respond, what evidence would be required and what you would pay yourself. See our guides to charter deposit insurance and skipper liability.

How much does Pantaenius charter insurance cost?

Your Pantaenius charter insurance premium depends on your trip details and chosen cover. The insured cruising area can also affect the premium, depending on the policy.

Calculating your premium is simple with the NauticAssure comparison calculator: enter your cruising area and a few details about your trip, boat and required cover. The calculator works out the premiums and shows the Pantaenius policy alongside offers from other providers.

A premium example for context

The German charter page publishes an €85.19 example: two people, two days in August, a RIB up to 15 metres, a €1,000 deposit and €5 million skipper liability limit. Deposit cover accounts for €73.19 and liability for €12.

This is a published illustration, not a general starting price or your personal quote. It excludes cancellation, medical and accident cover. Comparing it with an offer containing those options would not be like for like.

Prepare the cruising area, travel dates, participants, boat details, deposit and travel costs. Use identical inputs for every quote, then consider both the total premium and the amount you would retain in a claim.

Keep two columns: premium before departure and your contribution after a loss. This makes it easier to judge whether a premium saving fits your budget.

Single-trip cover or annual skipper liability?

Pantaenius also offers a separate annual skipper liability policy with its own wording. Check any existing annual policy against the planned charter before selecting additional liability cover.

If you charter several times a year, compare the annual premium with the combined trip premiums. Include boat lengths, use, insured people and excesses in the comparison. Price alone cannot establish whether every planned trip fits.

When should you arrange cover?

The FAQ allow deposit, skipper liability, medical and accident cover up to the contractual charter start. Cancellation normally has a 30-day advance deadline, with an exception for late bookings.

The exception is worded differently: the FAQ refer to charter agreements made in the final 21 days before departure. PCV 0525, Part A no. 4 refer to applying within 21 days of the agreement or at least 30 days before departure. Confirm the applicable rule if timing is tight.

Consider cancellation cover as soon as you book. Record booking and departure dates separately and check which events qualify for a claim. A change of plans is not automatically insured. Read more about charter cancellation insurance.

Which conditions deserve particular attention?

PCV 0525 charter conditions allow a reduction in deposit compensation for gross negligence. The special liability cover for grossly negligent damage to the chartered boat has a €2,500 excess.

Do not apply a statement about gross negligence to every part of the policy. Identify the particular benefit and the excess attached to it.

The FAQ distinguish up to 16 travellers from no more than twelve insured people aboard simultaneously. Account for crew changes.

  • Use: Describe a paid skipper, racing or unusual activities when requesting a quote.
  • Existing policies: Check their suitability for the actual trip before adding cover.
  • Documents: Store the quote, wording, crew list and payment evidence with the charter agreement.
  • Handover: Photograph existing damage and have it recorded in the handover report.

How to compare Pantaenius with other charter offers

Use your Pantaenius quote as one column and add alternatives using the same trip details. Highlight differences relevant to your plans. A tick in a comparison table only helps when you understand the associated limit or exception.
